The parents I met had read the books, tried rewards and consequences, and still questioned whether they were doing enough. The less confident they felt, the more reactive everyone became, and the more stressful family life became.
When parents were taught what was happening with their specific child, learned how to stay regulated, understand the "why" behind behavior, and were taught how to help their child learn and practice skills everything began to change. The power struggles decreased, connection grew stronger, children developed new skills, and home became a calmer, more peaceful place.
That's when I realized these are skills every parent deserves to learn—not just those who find themselves sitting in a therapist's office.
